Jason began his career as a satellite electronics technician in the U.S. Marine Corps. After two tours, Jason worked in the defense industry on several key projects including the Global Hawk UAV program, the Presidential Helicopter program, White House communications, and as chief engineer of an R&D missile program for the U.S. Navy. Jason attended college in the evening while working full time as an engineer during the day. After 20 years as an engineer, Jason accepted the challenge of changing careers to become a Patent Attorney.
Jason became interested in patent law and the protection of intellectual property (IP) while working on a business joint venture with a foreign company and witnessing the theft of IP data. Jason is highly motivated to the defense of IP through patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade dress, and trade secrets.
Jason possesses the ability to convert “Engineering-speak into English, and then convert English in legal-ese”. Jason’s background in electrical engineering subjects such as power system design, semiconductor theory, vehicle propulsion systems, medical devices, oil-and-gas technology, aviation systems, software applications, mechanical devices, and the like provides a solid technical background for understand new technologies and enables Jason to be a strong advocate for inventors and their rights.
Jason currently serves as the Principal IP attorney for IPExcel Inc. where he handles all US clients in portfolio monetization, patent drafting, IP strategy, trademark& copyright filing, patent prosecution, and licensing and sales negotiations.
In his spare time, Jason enjoys participating in various hobbies such as home improvement, car restoration & repair, model railroading, astronomy, bicycling, and hiking.
